The modern day saber grew from the cavalry sword. Thus the target for saber is the waist up, and touches may be scored either with the point of the blade (like foil and epee) or by the side, a cutting action unique to saber. Saber fencing is typically high-speed and energetic.
Equipment is provided for all group classes; just wear exercise pants and sneakers. We recommend tennis or indoor soccer shoes if you have them. If you happen to have your own equipment, you're welcome to bring it. We encourage beginners to purchase their own mask and glove (about $60 for basic ones) for both your own convenience and for hygiene.
There is an annual non-refundable registration fee of $50.
